Der Künstler bekannt als A. Dyjecinski, ist ein Rätsel, verpackt in ein Knäuel aus leicht mysteriöser Wolle. Was wir wissen, ist wenig und auf den Punkt gebracht: Sein Vorname ist Artur. Er kommt ursprünglich aus Nanaimo / British Columbia, er spielt sonst in der Formation Dracula Legs und war schon Gastvokalist für Timber Timbre. „I’m The Woods“ ist seine erste Single als Solokünstler und sie klingt angenehm schwermütig, traurig und sehr melodisch. Dem Song wohnt eine klassisch langsame Emotionalität inne, ergänzt durch verzerrte Gitarren und versiegelt mit den traurigsten Trompetenküssen. Oh, und Dyjecinski spricht man so aus: „Di-Je-Tschins-Ki“.
Völlig perplex und gleichzeitig so sehr berührt waren wir heute, als wir den Song „I’m The Woods“ das erste Mal völlig unverhofft und unvoreingenommen über Soundcloud gehört haben. 43 Plays, 1 Like, 1.000.000 Emotionen! Es fühlt sich an wie ein nachlassender Schmerz, der in seiner Wiederkehr doch immer stärker wird. Die Geschichte möchten wir in dem Fall in ihrer Originalversion für sich sprechen lassen.
„I went on a journey to see how remote I could live, how much solitude I could find. The concept of trying to be lonely doesn’t register with many people. To be lonely has so much negative connotation. But what if you can’t be lonely? What if no matter how hard you try, there is someone there; people everywhere, and no matter how far out you go, there is someone further, or simply in your mind. And how can I sustain life in these places? The middle of the Atlantic is as remote as it gets, but you can’t live there. Maybe for weeks, months, but not years. I soon began to realise that I am failing at my journey (or the point of the journey was changing), that even when physically alone, my thoughts were always in company. Or perhaps the observation itself was the point. The album is about failure of solitude and loneliness. The songs are the autobiographical stories.
If the concept behind the album was to find solitude, so the methodology should follow suit. I overdubbed each track on reel to reel tape recorder, the centrepiece of my home studio; drum kit, trumpet, bass, keys, viola, guitars playing every instrument myself. Hoping any naivety on the respective instruments would translate to something interesting. When the songs neared completion I thought that in order to drive the point home: Despite physical solitude, the weight of everyone I have ever known still stands with me; the backing vocals a symbol of their ghost.“
